When setting up campaigns, specifically retargeting campaigns, you can either target or exclude specific audiences. The first step is to build an audience. This is done by placing a SiteScout retargeting pixel on your landing page. As users visit your page, they will be added to your audience group.
To create an Audience list. Go to My Audiences from the left rail and click + New Audience. Name the audience something you will remember and be able to quickly identify, then click Save.
Click the grey gear drop down under the 'Actions' column, and click </> Get Tags.
Copy the retargeting pixel in the field that says "Tag Code" and place the pixel on your landing page/website.
Place the pixel on your landing page/website before the closing body tag.
Every time someone visits your page they will now be added to your newly created “Landing Page” audience list. Regardless of how visitors arrive at your page, the platform will add them to your audience group. Whether they came from search engines, links from other websites, or even media buys on other ad networks; they will all be captured in your audience.
Monitoring Your Audience List
Once you have added the code to your website, visitors will start being added to your audience. You can monitor the progress of your list within the Views > My Audiences section.
When viewing the stats of your audience group, the number of hits is the cumulative “Number of Hits” to your landing page/website whereas “Visitors Added” is the number of unique visitors added to your audience list (for the time period being viewed (i.e. Today).
The default view will be "Today". You can change the date range by selecting the calendar drop-down, and selecting a date range to view the total audience members added within that given date range, and then selecting Apply.
You can also extend the date range to the time the audience group was created to see exactly how many users were added for the entire time the audience pixel has been active on the landing page.
While there is no minimum required we generally recommend an audience list of 1,000 people or more to begin seeing significant bidding activity through retargeting efforts on the SiteScout platform. If you don't have high volumes of organic traffic, it is worth considering a strategy to drive traffic to your site using other campaign types. Doing so will populate your audience pools quickly, and set you up for success when creating a retargeting campaign.
