Postback Conversion Tracking

Postback conversion tracking uses server-to-server calls to pass information between two systems (i.e., SiteScout and a tracking platform). Using this feature, you can report conversions without having to rely on browser cookies. For demonstration purposes, we'll use Google Analytics as the example tracking platform.

The first step to setting up postback conversion tracking is to fetch the tracking link from your tracking software (e.g., Google Analytics). Tracking platforms as a whole have the ability to append variables that allow platforms like SiteScout to pass macros and send information from SiteScout to said tracking platform.

Note: In order to pass information between SiteScout and the tracking platfor, it is essential that you provide the tracking platform's variable for passing postback. Without this, postback conversion tracking cannot work.

Once the variable for your tracking platform is known, the variable can be appended to your click URL, followed by SiteScout's {postbackId} macro.

For example, if your tracking platform uses “clickId” to pass postback, your click URL would be formatted as follows:{postbackId}

The second step involves implementation within SiteScout's dashboard. You'll find the postback conversion pixel in the Conversions tab from the left rail. From here, create a new conversion pixel.

Select Get Tags and select the option for Postback from the Tag Type dropdown. Make a note of the string highlighted below and replace the text "POSTBACK_GOES_HERE" with the variable from your tracking platform in the text box.

Note: The variable used below may be different than the variable used in your click URL. You'll need to obtain all variables from your tracking software.

In this example, if your tracking platform uses “clickId” to pass postback, the postback conversion pixel will look like this:

In your tracking platform, there should be a spot to insert SiteScout's postback pixel.

Once your click URL has been set up correctly, and your postback variable has been inserted into your tracking platform, you can begin to track conversions.


If you are integrating with AppsFlyer for conversion tracking, there are 2 parts that must be completed in order to set it up. Part 1 is done within the SiteScout platform. Part 2 is done within the AppsFlyer platform.

Part 1 - Getting the Code from SiteScout.

Step 1: Create a conversion pixel in SiteScout.

Step 2: Once you have saved the pixel to your dashboard, click on the drop down with the grey gear, and select "</> Get Tags".

Step 3: From the pop up, select 'Postback" in the Tag Type dropdown menu. Copy the "code" value as seen in the photo below. You will need this code for Part 2 > Step 2.

Part 2 - Enter the SiteScout code into AppsFlyer.

Step 1: Head over to the AppsFlyer "Media Source Configuration" page, enter SiteScout and click on the SiteScout row:

Step 2: Once you click on the SiteScout button, a popup should appear where you will enter some information to generate the AppsFlyer link.

Your screen may not have the "Out of Store App URL" field. That is 100% fine.


  • This is an optional field that does not have anything to do with SiteScout. It just modifies the tracking link on AppsFlyer's side with a campaign name value.

Out of Store App URL

  • This field is only required if you are not using a standard App Store (i.e. Amazon). If you need assistance with this field, you will need to get in touch with AppsFlyer.

Click attribution look back window

  • This sets how long AppsFlyer will count a conversion after the initial click. To prevent any issues, you want this value to be the same as the campaign. The default value in the campaign setup is 30 days, be sure to double check to ensure the values match. This is to prevent discrepancies in counting conversions at the end of the campaign.


  • >The identifier value is the hash found inside of the conversion pixel found in the "code" section when you "</> Get Tags", as described in Part 1 > Step 3 above.

Step 3: Retrieve the links from AppsFlyer to use in the SiteScout platform.

The link inside the Postback Details field is the link AppsFlyer will use to fire a conversion. Do not use the link inside of Postback Details as the click URL.

After filling out all the information in the field, you fill find that there is a tracking link at the bottom. This link is the click URL of the creative.

If you think conversion tracking might not be working, AppsFlyer will need to provide logs to identify when/if AppsFlyer is attempting to send us postbacks.
